Our programme

Learning programme of Little Steps kindergarten

The programme of our English speaking kindergarten follows the British Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which gives clear guidance for learning based upon developmentally appropriate practices. We have further adapted the programme to fit our international kindergarten and the needs of all of our children.

Our curriculum is built around the following four principles:

  • A Unique Child - At Little Steps we recognise all children are different, but should be treated equally. We make every attempt to provide full opportunity for each child to do their best.
  • Positive Relationships – We help children manage their feelings and build positive relationships.
  • Enabling Environments – We create a safe, child-friendly environment where children can engage and learn. To accomplish the latter we ensure their physical and emotional needs are met during their time at our nursery setting.
  • Learning and Development – We support each individual child in the process of learning through play and exploration. We encourage children to develop imagination, to get actively involved in learning and to make decisions. We make every attempt to develop our children’s creative and critical thinking. We focus on six areas of Learning and Development:
    • Personal, Social and Emotional Development – helping to build confidence, concentration, independence and respect.
    • Communication, Language and Literacy – developing speaking and listening skills and beginning to read and write.
    • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy – focusing on number work, mathematical ideas and thinking.
    • Knowledge and Understanding of the World – helping children investigate and think about their place in the world.
    • Physical Development – relating to developing physical skills and understanding.
    • Creative Development – centred around building children’s imagination.

We place an enormous emphasis on the creative development of our children and there are plenty of opportunities for art and craft, performances, and musical activities. Our well-resourced outdoor play area and equipment give plenty of opportunity for children to develop their physical coordination. In addition, our children also benefit from PE lessons and music lessons.

Throughout the year we organise various season-based activities. In the spring and summer period we organise green school, zoo visits, horse farm outings, Kokolandia visits, swimming, football and tennis lessons. Our autumn and winter childcare programme includes activities such as ski school, puppet and music theatre, children’s opera, museums and exhibitions.
